Mikan's Mom...Second to Mary

Here is what Jenna did today...(I'll leave out all the typical household stuff).

1.) Dealt with Drexler overnight.  I got up at 4:00 am and went to sleep with Mikan because of Drexlerness.

2.) Took three kids with her to drop Mikan off at school.  Three kids 4 and under 5 weeks post 3rd C-Section.

3.) Finished grading 130 biology tests for me.

4.) Anica and Drexler Duty all day.

5.) Picked up Mikan at school with all the kids.

6.) Tutored 5:30 to 7 pm.

7.) Bathed kids.

8.) Helped put them to bed, threatened Mikan to not get out of bed again.

9.) Did some research for her online writing job.

10.) Probably a bunch of other phone calls managing Mikan's transition and other stuff.

Deal with it rest of the world, she's not your mom or wife.

Ranking of moms..

ABA Update

Mikan's fascination with the planets and outer space has rubbed off on Anica.  She knows all of her planets and asks to watch videos of them on YouTube just like Mikan.  Here is a video of them jamming to their favorite YouTube planet song.  Lyrics below for those who don't speak the "excited Mikan and Anica" language.
video
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, Jupiter, Saturn (those are the big ones), Uranus and Neptue, but not Pluto!  Those are the planets!....unintelligible interlude explaining some planet facts...Repeat chorus.

After meeting with Mikan's ABA therapy consultant recently, we've learned that Mikan may be ready to transition into a regular kindergarten in August (at least part-time).  This is earlier than we anticipated, so we are excited about his progress.  They've said that he is learning so quickly that they hope he will be ready to start in August.  They came with me to observe at a public school near our house and seemed confident that Mikan would do well there.  If our insurance approves it, Mikan will attend the regular kindergarten along with his ABA therapist for a transition period of up to three months before he goes by himself.  If our insurance denies this service, then we will try to send him for half days until we think he is completely ready.

A Friend

Last weekend Mikan had his first non-family play date.  He found a friend at school that likes states and planets as much as he does.

The moment I knew they were going to be best friends:
Mikan holds up a piece of a 2x4 that John had cut up to use as building blocks.  Mikan had drawn Uranus on the block with pen.
Mikan: What is this?
Friend (looking at the block): South Dakota!
Mikan: No, it's Uranus

The rest of the world thinking: No, it's a piece of wood.

So Mikan isn't the only one that sees states in everything.  We are still searching for a career path where he can make use of this skill.

Pictures from this week.  Mikan's planet obsession continues...

He has moved past just learning about the planets and has shown an interest in stars and galaxies.  Pictured above you'll find VY Canis Majoris, Sirius, the Milky Way Galaxy, and the Sting Ray Nebula.

Happy New Year 2013

We rang in the new year the same way we have the past five years...by going to bed before 10 pm and watching highlights of celebrations on the news the next morning.  This year I suppose I could claim that I celebrated since Drexler happened to wake me up just before midnight to eat, so I heard fireworks outside while I nursed him.  Drexler has been good to us so far though.  He is a good baby (easily pleased), which is new for us.  Mikan has been doing great with Drexler.  He talks to him when he is awake and is constantly asking questions about what he is doing or thinking.  Anica is still warming up to the idea of having a new baby.

They didn't go anywhere, but she sure did try.
