He's a Big Boy Now

Last week Mikan and Anica watched me finally graduate with my Master's Degree in English Writing. Well, they caught glimpses I think with John as he tried to keep everyone fed and entertained during the two-hour ceremony. The iPad helped I think.

We will see a new pediatric opthamologist soon to obtain a third opinion about Mikan's sight. We are trying to isolate all of his vision deficiencies that are a direct result of his ROP, if possible, so that they don't get caught up in an ASD diagnosis, if it ever comes to that.

Mikan has some exciting news to report from this weekend. Now he is out of his crib and in a toddler bed. The transition to the "big boy bed" was fairly seamless. I expected a huge fit, especially since the crib is still in his room, but he hasn't even acted like too much is different about it. The next morning after we put him in it, we found him on the floor though. And in the middle of the night last night, John found him half-off with his head and chest on the bed, but his legs on the floor. Oh well, it's not high enough for a major disaster.

Furthermore, Mikan went pee on the potty two times. This is a huge accomplishment; we were beginning to wonder whether he had any awareness of anything going on down there. He still has a long way to go before he is "trained," but we are pleased that this is another transition he doesn't feel anxious about.

And finally, this weekend he took his first guitar lesson from Grandpa.

I used to sleep like that when I was a kid too. Upper half on the bed. Lower half off the bed. My parents thought I was weird. They were right.
