Apples and Beaches

We decided to take Mikan out this weekend to pick some in season fruit and show him a beach for the first time. Yes, on August 29th, we dressed ourselves in several layers of clothing to visit Lake Michigan. This has been the coldest summer in northern Indiana that I can remember. But the weather today kept most people away from the beach, so we had it mostly to ourselves.

Mikan has finally been feeling a little better. He has started wearing his PMV again, and I think he is now trying to make up for lost time with his sounds. His latest skill is pointing and climbing to a standing position in his bed.

2 Week Delay

Unfortunately Mikan's condition hasn't improved enough, so his surgery was canceled till September 8th. Although he no longer has a fever, he still has a chronic cough unless he is given a breathing treatment every 4-6 hours. The antibiotic doesn't appear to be doing anything, so he probably has some form of viral pneumonia. He has also picked up his gagging/wretching again, which is a little worrisome, but we're hoping he will ride this out soon. He's still working hard on all of his skills and enjoys reading his books while getting a breathing treatment. Thanks to everyone who has been thinking and praying for our family.

Something

On Friday evening we took Mikan to the doctor because he was coughing up a lot of mucus and appeared to have a slight fever. The doctor noticed he was weezing, therefore he is getting Xopenex and is on azithromycin. He needed the breathing treatment at 2:00 am last night. Here is Mikan frustrated with yet another thing wrapped around his neck.

But despite feeling crummy, he couldn't help but smile for the camera.

Hopefully this doesn't set him back for his scope. Right now it is scheduled for Tuesday. If everything looks good, he may be downsized.

The Rumors are True...

Mikan is finally semi-crawling! He still cannot sit up on his own for very long, but he can now roll over into a crawling position from his back.

Mikan's surgery was moved up from Sept. 22 to Aug. 25. His ENT said she didn't want to wait that long to take another look at his airway (She was waiting for her schedule to coincide with Mikan's pulmonologist so that they could perform the procedure together). This is good news since we think he is already healed from his last surgery.

We gave Mikan a haircut today, and he was just a little more attached to his hair than usual...

More Summer Adventures

Mikan and I went to South Bend Regional to loiter and see the President land in Air Force One and take off in Marine One.

We don't claim to have seen the President. But it was interesting to experience the security, scale, and organization of the presidential visit.

We also saw Muhammad Ali take off from the airport. He is the man starting to walk up the stairway to the small plane. Apparently he has a place in Benton Harbor. Evidence it was Muhammad Ali:
1.) He had helpers on each side of him to walk him to the airplane.
2.) Some guy said he thought he saw him in a car drive up to the building he walked out of. 3.) There was a woman who claimed to have had a picture taken with him inside the building before he took off.
4.) There are other people taking pictures of him getting on the plane.

Summer Adventures

"Pray for Surf and Praise God Always."-The quote from the bottom of our surfboard. While doing menial tasks around the house, I've had a chance to reflect on this quote. If you think about "Surf" as rough times in life then the metaphors are endless. I have a strong belief in the old "God doesn't give you more than you can handle." So bring on the surf...

One week until school work starts. We have been lucky to have great wave days this summer. While our surfing skills may not be great, we are still having a great time.

Speaking of grrrrreat. Mikan got to see his first tiger at the zoo. Speaking of felines. The lion in this picture sat pretty still for Mikan. Lots of coincidences in this picture: Lion, Mikan, Dad wearing Lion's Club shirt, Mikan uses glasses.

That's right, I led with a story about myself, despite the title of the blog. Oh wait, I'm still my mom's little baby (Ummmm, can I have any gas money?)
